Quoted from local online media, starting from January 23 to February 25, 2020, Balai Nasional of the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park (TNBTS) will implement a car-free month in the entire Mount Bromo tourist area.

Of course, the enactment of this rule does not necessarily have a basis. It aims to honor the celebration of Wulan Kepitu (the seventh month) which is a holy month for the Tengger Tribe.

The Head of the TNBTS Center said when interviewed by a local media that this also had a positive aim of returning the Bromo Mountain ecosystem to simplicity so that natural harmony occurred far from the hustle and bustle of vehicle fumes.

When a car-free month, all types of vehicles may not cross the Tengger Sand Sea and Teletubbies hills. This is certainly good for eliminating pollution or neutralizing the air in the Bromo mountains. Of course, the exceptions are for visitors who use the services of horses, walking, and cycling.

The rules apply at all entrances starting from Cemoro Lawang, Ngadisari Village, Sukapura District, Probolinggo Regency; the entrance to Coban Trisula Jemplang, Malang Regency; and the entrance of Dingklik Penanjakan, Tosari District, Pasuruan Regency.

For information, Wulan Kepitu is a holy month for the Tengger Tribe.
During Wulan Kepitu, the Tengger tribe usually performs full fasting or "puasa mutih".

The goal is to resist temptations and worldly favors and get closer to God.
